Time for a Blog Candy

This post will stay on top. Blog candy available until March 31, 2011

So my blogger friend Dana recently did a post about prismacolor pencils versus copic markers.  She got me intrigued.  What do I do when I get intrigued?  I go to Ebay and start looking!!  Needless to say I bid on 2 sets of prismacolors and won them both.  Well you know I am going to keep the 48 for myself.  Now I could have put them back on Ebay, but instead I saved them to go with my Blog Candy.  I recently hit 100 followers.  Now, I would like to celebrate that fact!!  And hopefully get a few more!!  But first I want to show you what I did with my Prismacolors and my new RV-63,66's.  I think we need a color in between as well.  There is a a real difference in these colors.  I started by choosing this fabulous ribbon I got off of Ebay, then chose my papers, then my pencils and markers.  The markers are almost purple but are called raspberry.  I used a Sweet November Lillian stamp and buttons so I could enter it into the Challenge at All That Scraps this week.  So first off I am going to show you my two images.
The one on the left is colored with prismacolor premier pencils.  The one on the right is colored with my copic markers.  So the pencils are going to take some work, but it was my first time.
Then  I went ahead and finished them both off on a card.  I used my favorite sentiments by AmyR  called Sassy Sentiments.  There are some new ones out this month, I need to run over and shop for!! LOL

I will say that it was fun to play with a new medium.  I will need more practice though!!  What I really was thinking though is that it will be so much easier to load up the pencils and OMS in the travel trailer than to pack up all my markers this summer!

OK, now back to the blog candy.  This will be pretty easy.  All you have to do is:
1. be a follower of my blog.
2. put a pic of my blog candy in your side bar.
3. enter using the froggy below.
I would also love you to comment and let me know what you think of the differences between the prisma and the copics.  And feel free to send people my way.

Do you see all the goodies.  A 36 package of premier prismacolor pencils, 2 copic markers, some of my favorite coffee ribbon, some flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts, some Neenah paper, a Calendar for you to design, 2 new Sweet November stamps, and pearls!!

Great job of the Prismas Brenda: you were probably bidding against ME on ebay!! I've decided to buy just a few and see how I go, are they better than "normal" coloured pencils? I love the Copics sooo much, but they're bulky and very expensive here so if one runs out I have to pay through the nose or wait until I get replacements or refills shipped over. This is FANTASTIC candy, so glad I'm one of your first 100 followers!!! I'm going to go "post" it now, Dee (PS hope you weren't affected by the tsunami)

Thanks for the chance to win your blog candy and after debating last week this very personal decision I ended up doing a tutorial with two different girlfriends who are experts in both styles Prisma(2 styles: baby oil vs solvent) or Copic and colouring for me is faster and cleaner with Copic and eventually more versatile re: air brush with Copic sketch markers. So for me Copic Sketch Markers are the clear winner! That is when I can afford them which by my current financial situation is in five to ten years away(but it feels great to have made a decision )and in the meantime I'll just be grateful to use what I have....Love Trish xx

the Prisma vs Copic comparison is very interesting. both pictures are gorgeous. you are very talented at colouring! I use Prismas myself (mainly for cost reasons) and often have the problem with them photographing too "soft" compared with real life. Copics always seem more vibrant (although I have never tried them). Not sure if you have seen any of Jen Shults' work (http://deconstructingjen.com/) with Prismas - it is just amazing!!

Star said...

Both of your colorings are absolutely beautiful!! To me Copics are much more vibrant and stand-out, where Prismas (or colored pencils in general) are more soft and dreamy. It kind of just depends on what look you're going for. For example, I did a baby card recently in Copics that I really wish I had the time to do in colored pencils instead. It was cute, and bright, but I would have preferred the soft look for that card.

Like them both!! Your colouring skills are out of this world!!! Congrats on reaching 100 followers!!! WTG!!
Cheers!

Actually 2 pictures look amazing regardless of colored markers or pencils, there already is someone you like more, because, depending on preference and pictures pencils are better podouti eslii need softness)))
And of course thank you zarozygrysh so sweet, I hope I'm lucky, just like these)))

Hello Brenda, For a first effort with the Prisma pencils you have done a great job-just love the colours! Showing both copics and Prisma is a great idea & looks great. I feel the prisma pencils give a softer more subtle colour to your projects. Hey, nice pick up there on Ebay. Wow, what a great candy, you are giving us, your followers a chance to win, thank you. Never tried "Nener Paper", but have heard a lot about it. Hope I get a chance to try it, some day. Will look forward to seeing you adapt even more skill with your pencils., Have Fun trying! regards, Barb Mac

Bren think both of them look awesome!! I have been tempted to pull my prisma's back out, but so hooked on the Copics! Very pretty colors!")

ooh, I love seeing the difference between color pencils and markers! beautiful card.
I've been wanting to try prisma pencils for a while.
Fingers crossed!

For your first time with the prisma pencils, you did very well! Both cards are so pretty! I have not tried either, but from what I've seen, the pencils give a nice soft look but I like how the copics blend. You could probably make the prismas blend just as well with practice, so I guess the real difference is cost. Thanks for the chance!

Janina said...

Done everything you asked (hopefully correctly, lol). I color with normal pencils and love the soft look it gives. Recently bought some Promarkers, but I'm still experimenting with those!

ThePurplePlace said...

Wow! You are so sweet!!

Love the 'purple' coloring and can't wait to learn how to use Prisa Pencils as well as your an Dana do. I'm taking a class this Saturday and it will be a nice start!

Thanks and I hope to see your card at Suzanne's Party TOO!

Hugs,
Lis

I love seeing the difference between pencils and Copics. I also had the intention to use both. But I have to admit I always grab my Copics recently. Maybe when they're not so new anymore I'll find my pencils again. Greetings from Belgium, Annelies

La differenza si nota! Io preferisco la seconda colorazione, più brillante e realistica! Partecipo al candy. A presto Anna

I love how you did the comparison - thanks so much. I've only recently been researching about Prismas. One of my online buddies uses them a lot, with amazing results. I have been looking out for some, because I have a heap of digital images and nothing to colour them with!! I use watercolour pencils with rubber stamps but they don't work with printed images because of the bleeding. I think Prismas would be a more economical option for me than Copics, and I do like the subtle effect of pencils. I'm a new follower, and I really appreciate the chance to join in your candy.

i only use pencils, so i don't know the differences. thanks

may-chu said...

hmmm, I think I like the prismas better, they have a certain softness to them that I think the copics lack. is it really your first time using them? that's unbelievable, you did a great job.
oh, and congrats for the 100 followers. thanks for the chance to win these (I always wanted prisma colors!). posted on my sidebar: http://blog.tapuz.co.il/maychu

Hi Brenda,
I think your colors is stunning, but I have to admit I tend to LOVE the Copic Colors more, for the deep right colors.

I took my second class this week to try and master Prisma coloring and I failed miserably. I give up. I've realized that part of the reason it's so hard, is that it hurt my hands (arthritis), you need to use more force/strength with the Prismacolor and I was really aching my the time the class ended.

I remember know, why I never kept up after my first class...it's too much of a physical challenge for me..and I do NOT struggle that way with Copics!!

Thanks for sharing ...I wish I could being to color this well! ;)

I always want to learn and craft using Copic markers. However, since I a SAHM...it's hard to start a collection on copic markers. I started to coloring using regular colored pencil, blending tools and gamsol. Love it!! Waiting on buying PrismaColor pencils.
Well, in my opinion...Copic Markers give better result than regular colored pencil. But for now..I stick with my colored pencils.
A new follower, and thank you for a chance to win this.

Brenda, what a gorgeous candy ! Thank you for the chance, i love copics, i think that colouring is more expressive, but i never colored with such markers, i am a beginner in scrap and cardmaking, and here in Moldova we dont have much material for good craft creation! So i will dream about this candy! Hugs

I think if you practice more with the pencils, you can get more subtle shading than with the markers. Patsy from

They both are beautiful cards Brenda! Your coloring is fabulous on both, I can't believe that was just your first time with prisma's!

Stampin-MAMI said...

hi there, first time here... loving your blog girl..... as for the prisma colors vs COPIC... well the images i have placed today on my blog have been with Prisma Colors Pencils... i love those but I am anxiously awaiting to receive some copics I purchased, being that they are skin colors I wont get much use out of them but to start off its wonderful at least for me.... They are expensive those COPICS, but I will enjoy trying them out, and even better hoping that I am the lucky winner... Either way, good luck everyone....

Lisa Lynn said...

I absolutely love my Copics. I have used colored pencils not prisma's, but I usually go back to my Copics since I love the blending.
